Welcome to the web site for Temple Village, Midlothian, Scotland. We aim to provide information about the village of Temple and surrounding areas for the local community.

  The B6372 will be closed from 8.00am to 4.00pm on Wednesday 9, Thursday 10, Friday 11, Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 May 2012 from the A7 to Temple.
This is to enable the carriageway to be resurfaced outside Arniston House main entrance.
19 May 2012 Saturday 19:00 Moorfoot - Ivry Le Temple - Twinning Visit. Wine & Cheese at Temple Village Hall. Entrance £2.50 including one free glass of wine. Donations for a raffle welcome with proceeds going towards costs of hosting friends from Ivry Le Temple.
02 June 2012 Saturday 10:00 Temple Spring Walk - details to be announced.
05 June 2012 Tuesday 19:30 Temple Book Club - "A Tale of Two Cities" and/or "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens - for more details please check the book club page.
14 June 2012 Thursday 19:30 Temple Village Halls Association Annual General Meeting & Cheese & Wine. Find out what's been happening and how you can take part in the future of the halls. The current committee have served for a long time during all the refusbishements so would welcome any new members to help share the load. Call Irene Stewart (Chair) on 830243 or any of the committee members on the list in the village hall.

05 February 2012 Volunteers of Midlothian Paths Group will be making improvements to the River South Esk path between Temple and Braidwood Bridge on 4 days until 6th march between 10am and 4pm. Come along and join in, cutting back vegetation, creating steps and building boardworks - no previous experience required and tools are provided. Read more here...

13 November 2011 The Twinning Association has now been renamed Moorfoot Twinning Association with plans to involve the wider community. An update is now issued along with a report on the June 2011 visit to Ivry-Le-Temple and news paper reports. Moorfoot Community Council hosts a new website for the Twinning Association.

14 August 2011 In June 2011, Temple Community Cinema changed their name to Moorflix and will continue to show films to the villages in the Moorfoot Community area. The film programme has been announced so please check the website.
09 May 2011 Temple Spring Walk - We were particularly pleased with all the catering donations-yummy stuff! The help on the day was marvellous, particularly in the bar and in the kitchen sink and the clean up "staff" were to be highly recommended. There was also the usual behind the scene helpers in walk preparation to be thanked. All this effort raised a profit of £312.50 and in addition there will be bar profits.( not calculated as yet but bar takings were £164.80)- Sue, Eileen and Mike.
09 February 2010 Temple Book Club meet on the first Tuesday of every month to discuss a book that everyone has read. It's a nice friendly meeting in a neighbour's house, with a blether, with some wine, and a chat about the book - the books to be read from March until May have been announced. 28 December 2010 After the Temple 2011 Calendar flew off the shelves and sold out, the Friends of Temple Halls are looking to next year and are encouraging the community to take photos throughout the year for the next one. 23 July 2010 Temple Nursery and Playgroup now have their own website.
09 June 2010 You may just have heard that a short fictional film has been made in the local area involving many people from the community. The film was shown on the 6th and 7th of March, 2010 in the village hall with the stars arriving by "limo" and everyone dressing up posh. The project raised £1161.53 shared between the TVHA, Temple Nursery and setting up a new Temple Film Society. Full details of the film can be found here - www.theundiscoveredmovie.com.

28 October 2009 A number of reports are appearing in the newspapers about a carved stone found in a garden in the village - it seems to be creating quite a stir!!
03 September 2009 The Wicker Tree - the village was recently teaming with movie people filming the follow up to The Wicker Man - you can view a video of the burning of the Wicker Tree in North Middleton here.
12 December 2008 We've had a request for some information about a Coal Mine that used to be located near Temple Farm around the 1950s. If you have any information about the mine, please get in touch or discuss on the forum.
02 October 2008 Temple Bowling Club season begins on Monday 06 October at 7:15pm. Everyone over the age of 12 years welcome. Just come along on the night or contact Betty on 830295.
03 September 2008 Moorfoot Primary held their first Duck Race on 30 August 2008 to raise funds for the school. Details, photos and video can be found here.

Additionally, their ducks are available to hire for other fund raising events and details can be found here.

11 January 2008 We found an interesting link to someone who creates 3D panorama photos and has done several for Old Temple Kirk - these are quite stunning and worth a look! billward.eu/pages_temple/temple.html
08 January 2008 The Village Hall page has been expanded to allow online enquiries which will be emailed to the hall bookings co-ordinator.
03 December 2007 After a pilot scheme, Crafty Fingers, a craft club for children aged 8 and above, will continue into the New Year. This is run at Middleton Village Hall one Thursday a month.

24 October 2007 Temple Primary School closed its doors for the final time on 11 October 2007 while Moorfoot Primary School opened for the first time on 24 October.

Some web pages containing photos and information about Temple School will be finalised in the coming weeks.

23 May 2007 Sheila is a circle dance teacher living locally. She is interested in offering to lead Circle Dance within existing groups.

Circle Dance is a form of dance accessible to everyone, the music and dances come from around the world, some are ancient, some have been devised more recently:

  • there is no need for partners as we dance together in a circle
  • it is fun
  • it is relaxing
  • it is....... I could go on but try it!

She is happy to provide anyone with more information or indeed offer a 'taster' session of Circle Dance. Tel. 01875 821866.
