Welcome to the web site for Temple Village, Midlothian, Scotland. We aim to provide information about the village of Temple and surrounding areas for the local community.

Whether you want to check the dates for upcoming events, look up the number of a take-away before you leave work or are just interested in finding out about Temple itself, we hope you enjoy your stay.

18 January 2010 Temple Book Club meet on the last Tuesday of every month to discuss a book that everyone has read. It's a nice friendly meeting in a neighbour's house, with a blether, with some wine, and a chat about the book - January's book is Wolf Hall. If you would like to know more, please check the Book Club page.
13 January 2010 The next 5 week block of Yoga Classes in the Village Hall start on 13th January, beginners always welcome. Via the full details here.
28 October 2009 A number of reports are appearing in the newspapers about a carved stone found in a garden in the village - it seems to be creating quite a stir!!
03 September 2009 The Wicker Tree - the village was recently teaming with movie people filming the follow up to The Wicker Man - you can view a video of the burning of the Wicker Tree in North Middleton here.
29 July 2009 Moorfoot Community Council have been progressing the possibility of Twinning with Ivry-Le-Temple which is just north of Paris. Kerr MacGregor and Margaret Munro are visiting the village in the next couple of weeks with the aim of inviting them over later in the year. You can find out more details and discuss this on the forum here.
04 March 2009 The website has had a minor re-design plus a number of additions:

A Temple Village Discussion Forum is now available to locals and website visitors. Already there are some posts about the Old Temple Mines, Family Histories and the History of Temple. We welcome everyone to register and get involved.

Anita Pantling recently supplied us with a number of Temple School Class Photos from the 1950s and 1960s. There maybe someone you recognise? There are also several other school photos from the archives.

Bruce Laird offered to write a piece about his visits to Temple as a boy in the 1940s and 1950s.

A local historian, Archie Young, has supplied a number of photos showing a stone found at the Old Temple Kirk in 2006. Details and photos can be found here.

Latest TVHA Committee Meeting Minutes Published.

12 December 2008 We've had a request for some information about a Coal Mine that used to be located near Temple Farm around the 1950s. If you have any information about the mine, please get in touch or discuss on the forum.
12 December 2008 Kerry Bell's runs a local business "chocolateandmeringue" specialising in chocolate or meringue based desserts. Chocolate Christmas cakes cost £20 each for a 7.5" cake, and contain fruit. Kerry can be contacted for a full price list on 01875 830752 or
02 October 2008 Temple Bowling Club season begins on Monday 06 October at 7:15pm. Everyone over the age of 12 years welcome. Just come along on the night or contact Betty on 830295.
03 September 2008 Moorfoot Primary held their first Duck Race on 30 August 2008 to raise funds for the school. Details, photos and video can be found here.

Additionally, their ducks are available to hire for other fund raising events and details can be found here.

11 January 2008 We found an interesting link to someone who creates 3D panorama photos and has done several for Old Temple Kirk - these are quite stunning and worth a look! billward.eu/pages_temple/temple.html
10 January 2008 Jane Dunlop is running a further series of Art Classes running in 5 week blocks every Thursday From January through to June. To view the details, click here.
08 January 2008 The Village Hall page has been expanded to allow online enquiries which will be emailed to the hall bookings co-ordinator.
03 December 2007 After a pilot scheme, Crafty Fingers, a craft club for children aged 8 and above, will continue into the New Year. This is run at Middleton Village Hall one Thursday a month.

24 October 2007 Temple Primary School closed its doors for the final time on 11 October 2007 while Moorfoot Primary School opened for the first time on 24 October.

Some web pages containing photos and information about Temple School will be finalised in the coming weeks.

23 May 2007 Sheila is a circle dance teacher living locally. She is interested in offering to lead Circle Dance within existing groups.

Circle Dance is a form of dance accessible to everyone, the music and dances come from around the world, some are ancient, some have been devised more recently:

  • there is no need for partners as we dance together in a circle
  • it is fun
  • it is relaxing
  • it is....... I could go on but try it!

She is happy to provide anyone with more information or indeed offer a 'taster' session of Circle Dance. Tel. 01875 821866.
