Dave had visited Temple in May 2007 after doing much research on his relations and discovering he has had ancestors in the area since at least 1787! He is keen to learn any additional info on the on the Stewarts, Drysdales, Browns, Pringles, Taits and Baillies living in the Temple/Carrington area in the past 200 years.
The full email can be read here. Note we are in the process of obtaining the information from the gravestone that he requested.

My great grandfathers death certificate states that he was found dead in 1930 on the moor between Fountainside and Fala Farms. Can anyone give me any information about the moor (& is it still there?) Any info much appreciated!

Many years ago during the war I used to spend time with my Aunt and Uncle who lived at Cottage 3 Temple, Gorebridge and have wonderful memories of the beautiful place it is and thoroughly enjoyed seing this beautiful place on your web site.
I have been doing my Family History (my grandmothers maiden name was Sinclair) and spent a very short time in Edinburgh and Orkney this year and regret not paying a visit to Temple.
My Uncle died many years ago and unfortunately I have no knowledge of whare he was buried etc., and wondered if it possible that you may be able to advise me as to whom I could contact for information about him. His name was Robert Hastie and from what I remember of him quite a wild one.
Hope you can give me some advice.

I was in Temple last Sunday (May 20th) tracing my Drysdale and Stewart ancestors.
I noticed your notice of the school reunion and I hope it goes well for you today.
I was very excited to find the tombstone/memorial of my oldest known ancestor Alexander Drysdale in the graveyard of the old temple. Alexander is my GGGG Grandfather and his wife Isabella Miller and my GG grandfather, Alexander Drysdale are also listed on the tablet.
I have many Drsydale and Stewart ancestors listed as being born in Temple/Carrington from 1787 through 1901.
I would be very interested in any information on those families and it would be very exciting to see any old pictures.
The tombstone mentioned above is in very good repair and includes a Drysdale from around 1906.
It seems there were likely Drysdales remaining in Temple at the beginning of the 1900s and hopefully they may be recorded in the school records or in pictures.

We would have a minibus that would collect us & take us to school, I recall the driver's name was Dave. At the time, I lived at Esperston Farm Cottages with my parents & sisters.
Nearby was an old rubbish tip where we would go to play on piles of old mattresses & there was also a load of old wheelchairs we would use to race each other in. At the entrance to the farm road was a cattle grid and once there was almost an accident due to a broken bit on it.
Also, one winter the snow was that bad the school had to borrow a Land Rover from somebody, and fit it with a snowplough. This was used to get us home after school. An Xmas play one year: The Enchanted Xmas Tree - I think this was written by the then staff. I had the role of Counsel For The Prosecution. I do not know if there are any photos of the play. Wigs had been made for us by one of the parents in the style of High Court wigs. The pupil in the role of Judge, Andrew Kirk, managed to forget one or two of his lines but I remembered all mine despite my Dad making faces at me from the crowd trying to put me off! I still recall some of the lines, such as questioning about sledging: "When you were going down the hill, were you going head first or feet first?"
"I was doing belly-bumpers."
"Oh yes, that's the best way."
I also recall a Halloween disco one year in which my friends & I were 'dancing' to Eye of The Tiger by Survivor. I think it may have been 1982 or 83. I may have had a costume on, as I recall scaring somebody!
I haven't seen anyone from those days since I left secondary school in 1990.

Ann was looking for more information about Fountainside Farm (south west of Temple) and the Bruce family that owned it in the 19th and early 20th century.
Archie was looking for information regarding the Templars at Temple, the old Church and the Templar Manor as he was doing research about the area.
"The Comanderie I am a Knight in is the (The Jacques de Molay Comanderie 1314) our mission is to try to help keep up the history of Scotland as much as we can, this also involves schools where at times Scottish history is ignored."
Richard sent an email with details of his ancestors who used to live in Temple from 1680! He also provides information about a description of the land in Temple taken from a will in 1844.
As a teenager brought up in Temple and left when married in 1965. Interested to learn whether anyone recalls the Rennies at the Old Manse [Springfield] in the Main Street.
